A speech and language therapy assessment can help you understand your child’s communication profile, strengths and areas where they may need support. Families often ask for an assessment when they are concerned about their child’s talking, understanding, interaction, play, speech clarity, or social communication, or when they would like clear advice about the best next steps.
Assessments typically include:
Together, these approaches help us build a clear picture of your child’s speech, language and communication strengths and needs. An assessment can provide reassurance, answer important questions, identify whether any extra support may be helpful, and give you practical recommendations to support your child at home, in nursery or school, and in everyday life.
Whether you are looking for an initial speech and language assessment, a more detailed review, or evidence to support an EHCP, Inspired Communication offers different assessment packages to suit your child and family’s needs.

Our speech and language therapy packages are designed to support your child’s speech, language and communication while also empowering the key adults around them. We know that children make the best progress when parents, carers and education staff feel confident, supported and clear about how to help.
Therapy sessions are child-led, play-based and strengths-focused, with activities tailored to your child’s interests, stage of development and communication profile. Whether your child needs support with talking, understanding language, speech clarity, social communication or regulation, we work in ways that feel meaningful, engaging and supportive.
After your child’s speech and language assessment, we will talk through the therapy options together and recommend the support package that best matches your child’s needs, your family’s priorities and the outcomes you are hoping for.
Each speech and language therapy package is individualised and may include a blend of direct therapy, parent coaching, key adult support, home programmes, school or nursery liaison and programmes and regular review. This joined-up approach helps create consistency across home, nursery and school, so your child is supported in everyday life as well as in sessions.
Therapy can take place at home, in nursery, in school, or within your child’s wider learning environment, depending on what will work best for your child and family.
If your child has an EHCP, we can recommend a therapy package that reflects the support and provision outlined in Section F, helping ensure therapy is targeted, relevant and aligned with your child’s identified needs.

Individualised, engaging therapy sessions designed around your child’s interests, strengths, and communication goals. Sessions can take place at home, nursery, or school, and always include ideas and strategies for you to carry forward between sessions — ensuring progress continues beyond the therapy room. Shorter sessions can be provided for younger children.
